Integrity of Creation

The Earth and all of its inhabitants are sacred, for Creation is the primary revelation of the Divine.  St. Paul of the Cross, founder of the Passionists, was well aware of the power of creation.

“ Listen to the sermons of the flowers, the trees, the bushes, the heavens, the sun, and all the world. You will find they preach of love and praise of God, and invite you to magnify the greatness of the Sovereign Artist, who gave them being.”
- St. Paul of the Cross’ Letter to Francis Appiani, July 16, 1738

Since our Creator has given us the gift of creation, without which human life cannot flourish, we believe that we have the moral obligation to enter into a right-relationship with the earth and its creatures.

Climate Change

Climate Change is an environmental issue that concerns the Catholic Church: At its core, global climate change is… about the future of God’s creation and the one human family. It is about protecting both “the human environment” and the natural environment. It is about our human stewardship of God’s creation and our responsibility to those who come after us. (Global Climate Change, USCCB, #3)

The Passionist JPIC office supports the Catholic Coalition on Climate Change as a Catholic Organization that offers resources and advocates on behalf of this issue.

Simple Living

It is undeniable that ways of life are significantly influenced by different social contexts, for this reason the cultural challenge that consumerism poses today must be met with greater resolve, above all in consideration for future generations, who risk having to live in a natural environment that has been pillaged by an excessive and disordered consumerism. (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church #360)

The Passionist JPIC supports the initiative of the Passionist Earth and Spirit Center to adopt some conscious steps for promoting the integrity of Creation. Learn more in this PDF handout, and visit the Passionist Earth and Spirit Center’s Action page for links related to Simple Christian Living.
